Abstract

442,792. Closures for bottles &c. HOCHSTADTER, O., 33, Tengstrasse, Munich, Germany. Oct. 19, 1934, No. 30008. Convention date, Oct. 20, 1933. [Class 125 (iii)] In a closure for bottles and like containers consisting of two caps 1, 3, Figs. 1 and 4, fitting one within the other, the outer cap 1 has the form of a crown cork which is capable of being torn open to permit removal thereof, and the inner cap 3 consists of a spreading cap having marginal gripping members 10 adapted to engage the ridge round the container opening and a resilient bulged central portion which on being depressed causes the members 10 to spread, thereby enabling the cap to be removed. The two caps are secured together by holding members 8, 9, Fig. 1, the short members 8 engaging the edge or claws 10 of the cap 3, the longer members 9 enclosing the edge 10. The caps are pressed on the container in one operation, the inner part 11 of the marginal portion of the securing cap 1 being pressed tightly on to the members 10 of the closure cap. The closure is opened by tearing the part 5, Fig. 2, through the perforations 7, thus removing the strip 6. The securing cap 1 can then be removed and thereafter the closure cap 3. One member 9 is preferably attached to the strip 6 and inserted under the edge of the inner cap to serve as a lever to lift both caps when the part 5, 6 is removed. The cap 1 may be slotted at 12 to facilitate bending after the strip 6 is removed. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a double closure consisting of two crown corks while a form of double closure is described for application to a rectangular sheet metal box comprising a closure cover and a securing cap having tearing strips. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
