442,633. Tempering sheet glass. DUNLOP, S., 49, Chancery Lane, London.- (American Securit Co. ; 927, Market Street, Wilmington, Delaware, U.S.A.) March 27, 1935, No. 9594. [Class 56] [See also Group II] A device for supporting glass or other sheets while undergoing temper ing or other heat treatment comprises a thin metal band adapted to engage the edge of the sheet and also to engage its sides at a number of points, the band being flexible in the plane of the sheet and stiff in a direction perpendicular thereto. The metal band 1, Fig. 1, has serrated edges 1<a> which are bent at right-angles to embrace the sides of the sheet. After the band has been applied, the sheet may be supported by a number of forked members 2 which are clamped by bolts 4 between the sides of a rectangular frame 3 formed of angle irons. Slots 2<a> in the members 2 enable them to be clamped in any desired position of adjustment. The forked ends may be constituted of thin metal of low conductivity, such as nickel-chrome alloy. The frame 3 and the members 2 may be dispensed with, as shown in Fig. 6, the glass sheet A being supported by the band 1 which is attached to suspending members 8. The band is formed by a wide strip of metal which has lugs 1<b>, Fig. 7, punched out and bent at right-angles to embrace the edges of the sheet A.
