Abstract
442,258. Testing coins. BRECKNELL, MUNRO, & ROGERS (1928), Ltd., Pennywell Road, and DOLMAN, H. J., Church Road, Staple Hill, both in Bristol. March 20, 1935, No. 8640. [Class 27] In a coin-testing device for rejecting bent or over-thick coins, the coins 13 roll along a laterally and downwardly inclined track comprising a fixed plate 1 and a pivoted rail 4, a pivoted feeler 3 being provided which is displaced by such coins, causing the rail 4 to be withdrawn from beneath the coin so that it falls into a return shoot. In Fig. 2 the rail 4 is operated by a solenoid 9 controlled by contacts 11, 12 which are engaged when the feeler 3 is displaced. The rail 4 is held away from the plate 1 a sufficient distance to reject over-thin coins by an adjusting screw 6. In Fig. 5 the rail 4 is biassed by a weight 15 into the coin-releasing position, but is normally retained in position by an adjustable screw 16 at a lower part of the feeler plate 3. In Fig. 8 the rail is operated by a bent-over extension 18 of the feeler plate 3 through an adjustable screw 17. An aperture may be provided in the plate 1 to return undersized coins. A modification is referred to in which the rail 4 normally projects beyond the lower edge of the plate 1, but is withdrawn to release a bent or over-thick coin. The device may be used between the coin controlled mechanism described in Specification 320,613, [Class 27], and a change-giving machine to prevent bent coins reaching the change hoppers.
