Abstract

441,758. Sight - testing apparatus. SCHUR, K., 11, Kreuzstrasse, Memmingen, Germany. Sept. 14, 1935, No. 25578. [Class 97 (i)] A sight - testing card forastigmatism carries a plurality of groups 5...10 of coloured strips, the members of each group being of the same size and the strips in each group differing from each other in colour. The groups are arranged in series of decreasing size either in column as shown or radially. The meridian of the astigmatism of the eye is determined by known methods and the series is placed either parallel or perpendicular to this line by rotation about the pivot 2. The eye is rendered artificially short-sighted and the lens used is changed until the patient can guess correctly the colours in a standard group, e.g. 8. The card is then turned through 90‹ and another lens found for which group 8 is just distinguished. The difference in power of the lenses gives an indication of the power of the cylindrical lens required to correct astigmatism.
