Abstract
A mixture of one or more monohydric unsaturated fatty alcohols with castor oil or ricinoleic alcohol is sulphonated at a temperature of -5 to +30 DEG C. In examples: (1) a mixture of oleic alcohol and ricinoleic alcohol is sulphonated with 98 per cent sulphuric acid; (2) a mixture of oleic alcohol and castor oil is treated first with sulphuric acid and then with chlorsulphonic acid. The alcohols obtained by reduction of unsaturated fatty acid esters, e.g. fish oils are mentioned. The products may be used as wetting, washing, dispersing and emulsifying agents. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers also to the use of ricinoleic acid as starting material. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.ALSO:Products stated to have emulsifying and dispersing properties are obtained by sulphonating, at a temperature between ,5 and +30 DEG C., a mixture of one or more monohydric unsaturated fatty alcohols with castor oil or ricinoleic alcohol. As monohydric unsaturated alcohols are mentioned oleic alcohol and those obtained by reduction of unsaturated fatty acid esters, e.g. fish oils.
