Abstract

441,153. Nozzles; valves. LONGWORTH, J. R., 78, The Crescent, Northwich, Cheshire. Oct. 20, 1934, No. 30082. [Classes 69 (iii) and 135] Apparatus for delivering at will either a regulable et, a dispersed stream or curtain of water, or a combination of the two, comprises a body part a, Fig. 1, attached at one end to a branch band having a tubular extension a<1>. Around the body a is screwed a sleeve C which, on rotation, moves a cross-bar cl engaging a slot in the spindle d2 of a valve d by which the passage through the extension a<1> is regulated. The valve spindle is guided by a central tube carried by a sleeve C having slotted diaphragms through which water may pass. Around the upper end of the member a is a screwed sleeve h<2> connected by a conical part h to an outlet nozzle h<1>. Within the sleeve h<2> just below the conical part h is mounted a rotary impeller g of the form shown in Fig. 7. In the position shown no liquid can pass through the nozzle. On rotating the sleeve C the valve a is opened to give a jet and on rotating the sleeve h<2> the nozzle h<1> is moved away from the extension a<1> to allow liquid sprayed by the impeller g to escape into the nozzle h<1> at a<5>.
