Abstract

441,022. Grinding. SABINE, W. H., Glen Roy, Burton Road, Midway, near Burton-on- Trent. July 13, 1934, No. 20534. [Class 60] A machine for grinding bricks, tiles, &c. to reduce them to a predetermined size comprises means for moving the bricks &c. between the faces of pairs of abrading wheels spaced the required distance apart. On a base 10 are three pillars 11, the central one carrying on each end of a shaft therein a grinding-disc 13, and the outer ones each carrying a shaft with a disc 14 thereon ; the distance of the discs 14 from the discs 13 being adjustable by screw &c. gearing operated by a hand wheel 15 to suit the dimensions of the brick &c. being treated. The bricks &c. are secured on a holder 18, which may carry one or more bricks, or may have platforms one above another, and the holder is carried by an arm 19 pivoted at 22 and swung, to carry the bricks between and away from the discs 13, 14, by a connecting-rod 20 attached to a pivoted arm 23, the upper end of which engages in a cam path in a member 25 rotated by a wheel 26 ; the cam path is so shaped that the holder is fed slowly between the discs and is withdrawn quickly with a dwell in each extreme position of the holder 18. The arms 19 are adjustable by screws operated by hand wheels 21 to centralize them between the discs. According to the Provisional Specification, the connecting rod is actuated by a slotted member, oscillated by a crank-pin engaging the slot.
