Abstract

440,909. Indiarubber threads. HARBEN'S (VISCOSE SILK MANUFACTURERS), Ltd., LEON, M., and GOODWIN, L. C., Parkside Mills, Golborne, near Warrington. Oct. 27, 1934, No. 30916. [Class 70] Rubber yarn or thread is made by extruding latex through an annular orifice coaxially around a stream of coagulant, the extruded tube being collapsed to form a flattened thread by passing the extruded tube over heated drums or rollers to disperse or evaporate the coagulant and vulcanize the thread. The coagulant, e.g. acetic acid, may be initially heated to increase its coagulating activity and may contain material such as finely divided cellulose, barium sulphate, talcum powder or carbon black. In the extrusion orifice, the central nozzle c, for the coagulant, may be of 0À2 mm. bore and 1 mm. diameter, the annular space b, for the latex, being 0À275 mm. radial width.
