Abstract

440,206. Valves. CLERK, R. C., Sweet Briar, Runnymede Tow Path, Egham, Surrey. June 23, 1934, No. 18612. [Class 7 (vi)] For cooling purposes, poppet exhaust valves are provided with a hollow stem and neck shaped with a continuous curve after the manner of a trumpet and formed with openings 5 at the end of the stem through which air is drawn by the rush of the exhaust past openings 8 in the curvec neck. The head 3 is made separate and may be screwed and shrunk into position ; it may be formed with ribs 10 or a roughened surface, to increase the cooling effect. The head 3 may be of bronze or aluminium alloy, and the body of the valve of the alloy known by the Registered Trade Mark "Hiduminium." The openings 5 are located within the valve spring, to assist in cooling the same ; or they may be located beyond the spring washer 6. Specification 9667 /15, [Class 7 (vi)], is referred to.
