Abstract

439,015. Automatic exchange systems. BRODER, H., 21, Storchengasse, Zurich, Switzerland. April 8, 1935, No. 10834. Convention date, April 7, 1934. [Class 40 (iv)] Apparatus is provided at the substation for printing in respect of each call made the dialled number, the charge, and the time the call is ended, on two strips, one of which is delivered to the subscriber as a check while the other serves as a record. The type wheels are set electromagnetically by the dialled impulses and by metering impulses from the exchange. Upon lifting of the receiver, the supply transformer 5 is connected over switch-hook contact 2 to magnet 3 which attracts its armature 6 until it strikes a stop 7, thereby closing contact 8, which completes a parallel circuit through magnets 11, 12 in shunt with the normal contact 10 of the dial 13. The driving pawls 21 of the number wheels 23 engage notches in a shaft 19 so arranged that as the shaft is stepped round the pawls are brought into engagement with their ratchet wheels in turn. All the pawls are controlled by a single magnet 31 which is in turn controlled by a relay 28 in the impulse circuit. Each operation of the dial allows magnet 12 to energize and step the shaft 19. The first energization of magnet 11 withdraws the stop 7 and allows the armature 6 to complete its movement. At the end of the conversation, A.C. metering impulses from the exchange are received by relay 36 and are repeated at contact 39 to magnet 41, contact 8 being still closed, to advance the charge printing wheels. Magnet 3 is held after the replacement of the receiver by the intermittent closing of contact 50. When all the impulses have been received, the armature 6 of magnet 4 returns slowly under the control of a flywheel 33 and by means of a pawl 51 closes contact 53 momentarily to energize magnet 54, which releases a disc 59 and allows it to be driven through one revolution by a motor 58 until a catch 60 falls into locking position again. During this period, the motor drives in turn three Geneva wheels, the first bring- ing about a lowering of a roller 71, Fig. 2 to print the record on the strips 62, 67, the second feeding these strips and the ink band 64 and the third operating a blade 74 to sever the printed ticket from the strip 62. The time and date are printed by wheels 82, 83. In order to prevent a fresh connection being made before the printing operation is completed, the armature 6 of magnet 3 during its retarded return movement drives a notched disc 78 through one revolution during which contacts 48, 49 are opened in the line circuit, while contact 79 opens the circuit of magnet 3 independently of contact 2. Contacts 48, 49 are held open also by relay 46 which is connected in series with the motor 58. The printing operation may also be brought about by means of a press button 84, the contacts 85 connecting up the magnet 54.
