438,006. Heating water. HOUNSFIELD, L. H., 81, Morland Road, Croydon. Sept. 11, 1934, No. 14793/35. Divided out of 437,990. [Class 64 (i)] A thermal storage water heater having no flue and wherein water enters slowly and may be drawn off quickly, has a detachable plate 14 carrying a cold water supply pipe 10, a hot water draw-off pipe 8 and a thermostat 12 controlling the gas supply through pipes 5, 7 ; the plate is attached near the bottom of the tank so that when detached a handhole is exposed. A coil of wire 17 is soldered on the bottom of the tank to increase the heating surface, and the gas burner 4 is placed in an apertured casing 15 at such a distance below the tank as to ensure complete combustion. The draw-off pipe 8 is placed above the thermostat 11, over which cold water flows from a cistern 19 through a pipe 12 with a needle valve 21 so that water enters only so fast as it can be heated by a small flame. An air vent 9 leads over the cistern 19. Specification 437,990 is referred to.
