[Class 42 (ii)] The fractions indicator 19 of a measuring machine is connected to the measuring roller 10 by gearing 16, 17 which also is geared to a knob 22 by which the indicator is zeroized by hand. The units indicator 28 is driven step - by - step by an eccentric 23 on the fractions i n d i c a t o r spindle 18 and is zeroized by a spring 37. The eccentric rod 24 is connected by a link 29 to one end of a bell crank 31 normally held in the position shown by a spring 30. A pin 25 in the rod 24 engages the toothed wheel 26 on the units indicator shaft 27 which is also engaged by a spring pulled retaining pawl 34. As shown, the spindle 38 of the gear-wheel 16 carries another fractions indicator 40 and an eccentric 41 for operating a second units indicator 46. At the end of a measuring operation the lever 71 is depressed (1) to nick the fabric, (2) to rotate the cam 75 and thus through the levers 80 and 76 withdraw the anti-spinning device 82 and lower the pressure roller 79, and (3) move a lever 93 which lowers the throat lock 100 and releases a catch 83 which later enters a notch 84 in a disc 88 on the shaft 38 to arrest the fractions indicators in the zero position. The catch 83 is fixed to a slide 33, carrying pins 32, 36, 50 which move the levers 31, 48 to withdraw the operating pins 25, 43 and the retaining pawls 34, 57 from the toothed discs 26, 44 and allows the units indicators to be zeroized by the springs 37. When the thumb lever 62 is depressed the catch 83 is withdrawn from the notch 84 the pressure roller 79 is raised and the anti-spinning device 82 lowered. The thumb piece 62 is just covered by the fabric when the same is in starting position at the raised starting line 103.
