[Class 100 (ii)] A hand-operated embossing-press comprises a base 1 with an overhanging arm 2 secured at one end thereto and formed with a boxlike free end 4, the base 5 of which is apertured to allow a plunger 6 carrying a die 13 to slide therethrough, the box-like end 4 of the arm totally surrounding the plunger, and the base 5 thereof forming a ledge against which abut the lower ends of a pair of coiled compression springs 8 disposed in the box-like end 4, a pair of lateral abutments 9 on the plunger engaging the upper ends of the springs, and a hand lever 11 pivoted in the box-like end 4 and formed at such end with a cam 10 engaging the upper end of the plunger. The plunger 6 is preferably of square cross-section, and the abutments 9 comprise a pin passed transversely therethrough. The box-like end 4 is recessed at 7 to receive and support the lower ends of the springs 8. A small barrel-type lock 14 is fitted in a recess bored in one side of the arm 2, and a slot 16 provided in the plunger 6 is adapted to receive the bolt of the lock, preferably when the die 13 is pressed against the fixed die member 3, whereby unauthorized use of the press is prevented. If desired, two dissimilarly warded locks may be provided on opposite sides of the arm 2. The plunger and springs may be removed bodily from the press on the removal of the pivot pin 12 of the handle 11.
