Abstract
436,895. Centrifugal separators. SCHULZ, H., 87, Berlinerstrasse, Tempelhof, Berlin. April 24, 1934, No. 12276. Convention date, May 10, 1933. [Class 23] A centrifuge for separating solids from liquids has an inner drum 11 on a spindle 13 arranged at right angles to the axis of the outer rotary casing 1. Bearings 2, 3 support the casing 1, which is driven by means of a pulley 4, and the drum 11 is rotated slowly on its axis by means of reduction gearing 6-10 between a fixed shaft 5 and a toothed ring 12 on the drum. The mixture passes through the entry 15 to the nozzles 18 and to the cells 19 arranged inside the drum wall. The separated liquid escapes over the wall 20, and the solids remain in the cells which are closed by flaps 21 except at the discharge zones where the solids are discharged through the funnels 25. Each of the cells 19 have a radial side 19<a>, Fig. 6, extending substantially parallel to the spindle 13, and a sloping side 19<b>. The angle of inclination of the sloping side is such that the separated solids remain in the cell while mush and liquid slip over the side into the next cell. The walls may be warped, and they may be partly made as sieves, so that liquid passes through while solids are retained. The overflowing liquid passes through openings 26 in the casing to the gutters 29. In the modification shown in Fig. 9, the cells are constructed in the form of cups 30 and are carried on shafts 31 so that the cups can be tilted to discharge the solids into the funnels 25, Fig. 2.
