Abstract
436,438. Railway trucks. ROVER CO., Ltd., and POPPE, O., Helen Street, Coventry. June 22, 1935, No. 17990. [Class 103 (iv)] A truck of the kind employed in the assembly and finishing of motor-vehicle bodies, being advanced slowly along a track during successive operations, comprises a hollow, preferably cylindrical, longitudinal beam 12 having considerable torsional rigidity, and two or more sets of spaced arms 13 projecting on each side of and rigidly secured to the central beam. The arms 13 may, as shown, be formed of channel section and be united to the central beam by plates 16, which are welded to the central beam and either bolted or welded to the arms 13. Both end arms may be secured to caster brackets 22, or, as shown in Fig. 3, one end arm may be pivotally or rigidly connected by the plates 16 to a crossbar 26 supported on casters 21, thus providing a three-point suspension. Pillars 24 may be erected at suitable points for supporting the wheel arches or like parts of the vehicle body.
