Abstract
436,254. Directive aerials. KIRKE, H. L., 53, Rodenhurst Road, Clapham Park, London. July 18, 1934, No. 21066. [Class 40 (v)] In an aerial of the type comprising two or more elements capacitycoupled in series, the length of at least one of the elements is less than half the working wavelength. The average overall current is at least 0À7 of the maximum current, whilst the current at all points of at least one element exceeds 0À5 and may reach 0À9 of the maximum current. Fig. 1 shows two elements a, b, each three-eighths of a wavelength long, and capacitycoupled, the overall current-value being shown by the thin full line. In Fig. 2, the top element a is # of a wavelength, the remaining elements b, c, d each being a quarter wavelength. In Fig. 3, the top element is a quarter wavelength, and is fitted with a capacity ring or plate T equivalent to an extra #th wavelength.
