435,788. Cutting wood chips and shavings. BRAVI, G., 22, Via Milano, Varese, Italy. Jan. 9, 1935, No. 737. Convention date, Jan. 12, 1934. [Class 145 (i)] A machine in which wood chips, shavings or the like are cut from wood blocks by scoring and cutting blades mounted on an endless chain is provided with power-driven mechanism for feeding the blocks against the scoring and cutting blades on the rectilinear runs of the chain. The chain 2, Figs. 1 and 2, passes around two wheels 4, 5 mounted in the upper part of the framework, rollers 8 on the ends of the pins connecting the chain links engaging recesses 6 in the peripheries of the wheels 4, 5. The shaft 3 of the wheels is suitably driven through a flywheel or gear wheel 9. The chain is guided by vertical guides and at its lower end passes around sectors 42 which are vertically adjustable to tension the chain. Guides 10, 11, 12, 13 are provided for the wood, the upper guides 10, 12 being fixed to the framework and the lower guides 11, 13 being vertically adjustable by screws 24. A supply of wood is placed in the extensions 72, 73, 74, 75 and is pressed up to the feed mechanism by counterweights. The wood is fed to the cutting runs of the chain by toothed chains passing over multiple sprockets 54 which are driven through worm gears 38, 39 by vertical shafts 37 driven through bevel gears 35, 36 by spindles 33, 34 driven through sprockets 31, 32 and chains 29, 30 by a double sprocket 28 mounted through a friction cone 45 on the shaft 3. A change speed gear device may be provided to alter the rate of feed. The chain comprises links 55, Fig. 5, to each of which is secured a cutting blade 67 by means of screws 87 and scoring devices 80, the latter comprising rotary blades spaced by washers and secured in a recess in the link by a toothed plate 63 screwed thereto. The spacing of the scoring blades may be greater than the required width of shaving, successive scoring devices being staggered.
