Abstract
<PICT:0435395/IV/1> Doubled textile yarns impregnated with rubber or analogous dispersions are made by impregnating the individual yarns under differential pressure, clearing them from excess by means of a gas under pressure, and doubling whilst still moist. The yarns are preferably impregnated whilst in cheese form. The process produces yarns which are impregnated with rubber, but which have no surface coating. The doubled yarn may be vulcanized, but mere drying may be sufficient. The apparatus described in Specification 408,931 may be employed for the impregnation, or the simplified form shown. The cheeses x on perforated metal holders are placed round a perforated pipe 3 in a chamber 1. Rubber latex from the vessel 14 is forced by compressed air from the pipes 15, 18, 21 into the vessel 1, through the cheeses, via the pipe 3 to vessel 10. The latex is then forced back again through the cheeses into vessel 14. This may be repeated. Compressed air is then passed via the pipe 16, through the cheeses to clear them from excess latex. The cheeses are then removed, and the yarn doubled whilst still moist.
