Abstract

434,664. Diaphragm valves. SAUNDERS INVENTIONS, Ltd., 98, Beresford House, Main Street, Johannesburg, South Africa, and SAUNDERS, P. K., 5, Tettenhall Road, Wolverhampton. March 6, 1934, No. 7088. [Class 135] In a diaphragm valve of the kind comprising a casing 31 with a straightthrough passage intersected by a barrier 29 curved to form a seating for the diaphragm 12, the devices for actuating the diaphragm 12 include a bush 24 rotatably-mounted in a casing-cover 21 and inserted therein from the inside. The bush 24 which is a loose fit in the cover 21 is secured by an integral flange at one end and a cap 25 in the form of a hand wheel at the other end. A part of the bore of the bush is threaded to engage the screwed spindle 27 to which the compressor member 15 is pivoted about an axis parallel to the line of flow, the diaphragm preferably being secured to the compressor 15. A cavity 35 connected by a small hole to the outside of the bush is provided for lubricating purposes. The cavity 35 is closed by a disc 34 on the spindle 27 which may carry a peripheral packing. A ball-bearing may be provided between the flange on the bush and the cover to take the end-thrust. Specifications 321,892, [Class 135], 362,084, 434,665, and 434,684 are referred to.
