Abstract
433,650. Spectacles. WINGATE, G. H., 15, Wigmore Street, Cavendish Square, London. March 29, 1934, No. 9881. [Class 97 (i)] Relates to bifocal spectacles in which the bridge or nose pads can be adjusted to enable the frame to be raised for reading or lowered for distant vision. In Fig. 2 the bridge comprises a front portion 1 which is fixed to the rims &c. and a rear portion 3 carrying the pads 4 and slidable in guides 5. When the lenses are in their lowered position for distant vision the part 3 is concealed by the part 1 so that the appearance from the front is normal. To raise the lenses for reading the part 3 is pushed downwardly. In Fig. 4 the part 3 is movable in guideways 5 in the fixed bridge 1 and is concealed thereby when the lenses are lowered. In Fig. 7 the part 1 secured to the rims acts as a pivot for a rotatable part 3 having alternative surfaces 3<a>, 3<b> for resting on the nose.
