Abstract

433,205. Degumming ramie, sisal, hemp, &c. in preparation for spinning. GAGE, C. E., 7, Rupert Road, Bedford Park, London. Feb. 6, 1934, No. 3874. [Class 120 (i)] The plant stalks or semi-prepared fibres are submitted successively to maceration, to treatment with a solution in water of caustic soda, linseed oil, turpentine and ammonia in the proportions of 5, 3, 3 and 4 per cent by weight and at a temperature between 160-190‹ F., to treatment with a solution in water of common soap (3 per cent) and linseed oil (3 per cent) at not less than 120‹ F., to neutralization in hydrochloric acid and, after drying, to treatment in a softening machine comprising relatively reciprocating plates.
