[Class 40 (i)] For the distant transmission of pointer positions by means of an induction motor of the Ferraris type, two oppositely directed torques which act on a common shaft are respectively proportional to two currents, the values of which depend both on the position of the transmitter and that of the receiver, and are equal to one another only when the receiver and transmitter are in corresponding positions. Movement of a transmitter pointer q varies a resistance b to destroy the balance between the currents in opposed coils s1, s2, of the receiver motor which rotates its pointer p and varies a resistance c to rebalance the currents in the coils s1, s2, and stop the movement when the receiver and transmitter positions correspond. In an alternative arrangement the motor has two discs, co-operating respectively with the coils s1, s2. In a modification, Fig. 2, (not shown), for transmitting the sum, difference, or arithmetical mean of a number of measurements, the receiver motor has a single driving coil supplied from the secondary winding of a transformer provided with opposed primary windings energized in accordance with the positions of the transmitters and receiver. The variable resistances may be replaced by variable inductances or capacities, and the receiver may operate a recording device. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 24855/98, [Class 40].
