Abstract
431,728. Vapour burners. SKACEL, H., 54, Rue Lamartine, Paris. March 6, 1934, Nos. 7131 and 7132. Convention dates, June 13, 1933 and Jan. 11, 1934. [Class 75 (i)] Liquid fuel is vaporized in an annular chamber formed between two cylinders 9, 10, Fig. 5, the vapour being discharged from an adjustable jet 23 to mix with air in a casing 4 and to burn around the vaporizing chamber at gauzecovered openings 6 in a wall 1 attached to or forming part of an oven or other heating apparatus. The fuel flows in the annular chamber either through passages formed by helical partitions or by sinuous pipes 13. The central part 1<a> of the wall 1 is depressed to receive a plate 42 to which the annular chamber is attached by studs 43. A housing 4<a> having a sloping front edge 5 surrounds the annular chamber. The fuel passes to the annular chamber through a pipe 15 which is fitted with a back-flow preventing valve 47 and a regulating valve 48. The valve 48 is pressed by a spring 50 against the end of a spindle 51 sealed by a flexible membrane 52, the spindle 51 carrying a pinion 54 engaging a toothed segment 55 on an apertured plate 56 which can be operated either by hand or a thermostat to vary simultaneously both the fuel supply and the air entering the casing 4 through apertures 63 in the back plate 58. Unvaporized fuel issuing from the jet 23 drains from the casing 4 into a basin 69 and raises a float 72 thereby operating a valve 75 to cut off the fuel supply to the vaporizing chamber. When the basin is empty the weight of the float closes a, valve 74 and prevents fuel being supplied to the basin. Excessive vapour pressure at the jet 23 is relieved by a spring-pressed valve 76. Combustion is initiated by an electrically heated resistance or by burning alcohol in a trough 28. A flexible wire 78 melts and releases a weight closed valve in the fuel supply pipe if combustion occurs in the casing 4 owing to the gauze being damaged. In another construction the mixing chamber is cylindrical and is attached at its rear surface to the wall 1 so as to be wholly within the oven, the gauze-covered apertures 6 being formed in a conical vane attached to the wall of the mixing chamber and carrying the annular vaporizing chamber. The passage through the vaporizer is closed at its rear end by a cone which may, if desired, be provided with gauze-covered flame apertures. In another construction shown in Fig. 4, the annular vaporizing chamber is arranged with its axis vertical, combustion being initiated by burning alcohol in a cone 30 at the base of the vaporizing chamber.
