Abstract
431,644. Valves. FERGUSON, T. G., and HOVEY, B. H., c/o Bowser & Co., St. Ann's Hill, Wandsworth, London. Dec. 12, 1933, Nos. 35007/33, 22728/34, and 25499/34. [Class 135] [See also Group XVIII] In apparatus for accurately dispensing predetermined quantities of petrol or other liquid by means of a valve controlled by limiting mechanism which can be set according to the required quantity, the valve system comprises two or more valves which are seated in succession in order to obviate hammer blow, the valves being controlled by a single operating member in such manner that a cam driven by the liquid meter brings about a gradual closing of the valves towards the end of a liquid dispensing operation. The valve-box 30 houses an inlet valve 34 past which liquid flows to a chamber 36 and thence by way of a delivery valve 40 to the outlet 42. The valve 40 is surrounded by a second valve 50 having a port 54 and seating at 52 on the valve-box in such manner that on actuation of the valve-stem 43, the valve 40 first opens and then lifts the valve 50, the closing of the valves taking place in reverse order. The valve 50 may be replaced by a second small valve similar to the valve 40 but having a stem of different length so that the two valves are actuated in succession.
