Abstract
430,975. Discharge lamps. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS'GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, Emmasingel, Eindhoven, Holland. April 6, 1935, No. 10723. Convention date, June 4, 1934. [Class 39 (i)] In a lamp-more particularly with a high pressure metal vapour discharge-the electrodes 2, 3, are in the form of helices closed on themselves by parts passing through the centre of the helices, and each with the turn 5 remote from the discharge of larger diameter than the other turns; a large current may thereby be induced in the electrodes to drive out occluded gases. The electrode at the end near the pinch 6 may have its turn 5 flattened in one direction so that it may be placed close to the end of the tube which is also narrowed at this point. The electrodes have a tungsten core on which a thin wire is helically wound, a coating of electron emitting oxide being placed thereon. The electrodes are supported by wires 7 surrounded by insulating tubes 8; an auxiliary starting electrode consisting of a thin tungsten rod is placed near the electrode 2. The filling consists of neon and mercury vapour in unsaturated state.
