Abstract

A water-soluble inorganic alkali or alkaline salt and an organic accelerator are incorporated in a rubber mix containing a highly adsorbent siliceous filler. The preferred alkali is water glass and the siliceous filler is preferably precipitated silica prepared as in Specifications 294,681, 299,483, [both in Class 1 (ii)], and 357,993, [Group III]. In an example the accelerator is diphenylguanidine. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 408,930.
