[Class 96] The thickness of a paper web is reduced along longitudinal areas so that when divided longitudinally, strips or tapes of reduced thickness at the edges, e.g, for wrapping cables, are formed. The web may be highly compressed between rolls, one of which has raised peripheral portions which squeeze out the paper locally.
