[Class 57] The regulating member 3 of a fuel injection pump 1 is connected to a link 6 which is pivoted at 7 to the sleeve 9 of a centrifugal governor 10 driven by the camshaft 2. The link 6 is connected to a rod 14 actuated by a pedal 13 loaded by a spring 16. The position of idle running of the pedal 13 is determined by the stop 15 and the position for delivering the maximum amount of fuel is determined by the collar 17 engaging the surface 18. The centrifugal governor 10 is loaded by three springs 25, 32, 33. The spring 25 controls the idling speed and the spring 32 is pre-compressed between collars 21, 28 and when the speed reaches a maximum the spring 32 quickly collapses to reduce the fuel supply. The spring 33 engages the collar 28 and is engaged by the collar 35 on the sleeve 9 at a speed slightly greater than idling speed. The spring 33 is such that the load required to crush it is great and it gradually diminishes the maximum amount of fuel that can be delivered as the normal working speed increases. The spring 33 may be pre-compressed and the collar 28 may be provided with a sleeve surrounding the spring and determining the amount it may be compressed by the governor sleeve movement. The arrangement of the springs in the governor may be varied. Fig. 6 shows one arrangement wherein the weights 65 are pivoted at 66 and projections 81 engage a plate 80 connected to a rod 84. A pin 85 engages a link 61 connected to the regulating member 58. The pedal 13 is connected to a crank-pin 62 upon which the link 61 is pivoted. The idling speed spring 87 engages the rod 84 and the maximum speed spring 70 is mounted upon a rod 69. The normal running speed spring comprises Belleville washers 75 which are engaged by forks 77 integral with the weights 65.
