428,500. Milling-machines. HOPPE, F. E. O., Rorschacherberg, Switzerland.-(Assignee of Schmidtmann, F. W. ; 3, Kastanienweg, Degerloch, Stuttgart, Germany) April 21, 1934, No. 12034. Convention date, April 22, 1933. [Class 83 (iii)] A universal milling - machine having a vertically adjustable headstock, a rotary worktable, and an end support for the arbor, is characterized by the column having a bevelled portion on one side to give the table greater angular travel, the reduction in strength of the column due to bevelling being compensated by an auxiliary pillar placed on the other side, which also serves as an additional guide for the headstock. The column 2, arranged to slide in the axial direction of the arbor 15, is cut away on one side 29<1>, Fig. 5, to permit the work-table 7 to be set at an angle to the arbor without being placed at a great distance from the column. A pillar 20 compensates for the strength reduction of the column and also serves as a guide for the headstock 8 which moves on slideways 9 at the side of the column. The headstock carries overarms 11 to which are attached the arbor supports 12, 13, 14; an adjustable pillar-back 18 being provided to support the end of the overarm and arbor.
