Abstract

427,322. Inductances; cables. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. Oct. 14, 1933, No. 28456. Convention date, Oct. 19, 1932. [Classes 36 and 37] A magnetic core for high-frequency apparatus is formed of a uniform mixture of magnetic powder with insulating material, the latter amounting in volume to at least half the total volume of the core, and consisting of a polyvinyl compound, such as polystyrol, alone or mixed with other insulating materials, such as rubber, balata, guttapercha, cellulose derivatives, formaldehyde condensation products, or waxes. The mixture of magnetic insulating substances may be compressed in a mould, or formed into sheets, bands or the like from which the cores can be made. The products may be used for loading coils, filter coils or other high frequency apparatus, or for loading cables. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a coil 3 is provided with a protecting jacket 4 around which the core 5 of magnetic and insulating materials is applied with light pressure. In a modification, the coil is of rectangular cross section, and in another modification the core is applied as a ribbon wound round the coil. Fig. 7 shows the application of the invention to a cable for the transmission of high frequency currents, the cable comprising a conductor 30 coated with a viscous mass 31 which is surrounded by a magnetic ribbon 32 and outer insulating layer 33. Where the cable is provided with a return conductor concentric with the inner conductor, both conductors may be surrounded with a magnetic ribbon. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 is not restricted to cores containing polyvinyl compounds, but covers the use of any mixture of finely divided magnetic and insulating substances in which the volume of the latter amounts to at least half the total volume of the core. The core material may be hardened by polymerization or by evaporation of solvents, or in the case of rubber mixtures, by vulcanization. The core material 52 may also be used for filling the air gaps in a core of ordinary construction made in two parts, as shown in Fig. 9 (Cancelled). This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
