Abstract
Rubber articles having a crinkled surface are manufactured by applying a layer of an aqueous dispersion of rubber or the like to a layer or article of unvulcanized masticated rubber and, when the layer of dispersion has dried, applying a rubber solvent to the composite article or layer. A crinkling of the surface occurs. The article may be subsequently dried and vulcanized. A suitable dispersion is diluted latex of 20 per cent dry rubber content. In an example, to manufacture surgeons' gloves, formers are dipped a number of times in a solution of masticated rubber and dried; the gloves are then dipped in 25 per cent latex, dried, and immersed in a solvent such as petrol. When dry the gloves are vulcanized.
