Abstract
426,318. Harvesting root crops. PETITPREZ, M., Arques, Pas-de-Calais, France. June 26, 1933, No. 18171. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Dec. 28, 1933]. [Class 6 (iii)] The tops of beet or like crops are lifted by flexible rods 29 at the ends of oppositely rotating top gathering and lifting members 23 situated above adjustable root lifting members 31 shaped like twist drills and rotated in opposite directions ; guides 39 hold the roots in correct position relatively to the top lifting members. The roots pass from the lifting devices to a gripping device comprising two endless chains the links of which are cup shaped to hold the roots and to carry them to a stationary topping knife 22. The cut tops are thrown by rotating vaned wheels 43 on to a slope 41 up which they are carried by co-operating band brushes 68 to be delivered to an adjustable band conveyer 48. The topped roots are gripped between two band brushes similar to the brushes 68 and carried along a ramp 42 to a conveyer 59 also adjustable for delivery ; the band brushes are preferably driven at different rates so that the roots are rotated and cleaned. The front of the machine is carried by a vertically adjustable steering wheel 15.
