[Classes 18, 94 (i), and 94 (ii)] In packing cigarettes and like articles, the cigarettes &c. 1, Fig. 5, are enclosed in wrappers 2 of transparent wrapping material such as that known by the Registered Trade Mark " Cellophane," so that only the ends are uncovered, and the ends of the wrappers are flush with the ends of the cigarettes. A batch of cigarettes, partially wrapped in this manner, is inserted in a slide 3, Fig. 1, and shell 4, the cover flaps 5 of the shell at each end being provided with a liner 6 of transparent wrapping material, so that when the slide is closed, the end of each individual cigarette is closed by a common wrapping. In order to assist in the removal of the wrapping 2, the flap 18 of the shell may be formed with a tongue 19 and notches 20 so that the cigarette may be pressed partly out of the wrapping. In a modification, the cigarettes are enclosed in a paper &c. wrapper having liners 6, Fig. 6, applied to those portions which will be adjacent to the ends of the cigarettes after application. Alternatively, the liners 6 may be applied to a reinforcing strip 15, Fig. 15, which may carry also the stripping formation 19, 20.
