Abstract
425,266. Packeting - machines. AMERICAN MACHINE & FOUNDRY CO., 511, 5th Avenue, New York, U.S.A. June 8, 1934, No. 17023. Convention date, Feb. 15. Class 94 (i)] In apparatus for opening the outer shells of slide and shell packets from a collapsed condition, the shells S<1>, Fig. 1, are fed from the bottom of a magazine 20 by horizontally reciprocating pusher bars 22 on to a plate 23 with the seam X, Fig. 4, underneath. A clamping finger 34, Figs. 1 and 8, descends and engages the shell over the seam, at which point there are three thickness of cardboard. This holds the shell firmly so that a blade 35 may be inserted between the upper and lower walls, whereupon the clamping finger 34 rises. The blade is mounted on a rack 40 reciprocated by a sector 41 so that it recedes when the pusher bars 22 advance and vice versa. A folder 45 now pivots about the crease on the shell coincident with the edge of the plate 23 and turns through more than a right angle into the position shown in Fig. 9. This counteracts the tendency of the shell to spring back again, and the folder returns to a position at right angles to the plate. An ejector 46 pushes the shell into a transfer arm 47 which moves it to the loading position.
