Abstract
Fibrous sheet material suitable for covering floors, walls, furniture, &c., and for wearing apparel, boots, &c., consists of feltable animal fibres such as wool or hair ground or cut to lengths of 1-5 mm. and agglutinated by a flexible adhesive such as latex, which may contain vulcanizing agents, gums, waxes, soaps, drying oils, or cellulose esters. The fibres may be pretreated with a wetting-out agent such as a sulphonated oil, e.g. one treated to an electric ionization process as described in Specification 363,652, [Group IV]. A latex-fibre mix may be sprayed, poured, or spread on a support, e.g. a polished surface such as a metal belt, dried, and the resulting film stripped, and, if desired, rolled or pressed to produce a polished surface. Alternatively the fabric may be produced by sifting or blowing the fibres on to a film of agglutinating liquid, drying, and stripping. Powdered cork, wood flour, &c., may be added as fillers. The fibres, or the latex may be dyed or coloured before mixing.
