Abstract

424,839. Compound paper. WINKLER, C., 7, Bubenbergplatz, Berne, Switzerland. Aug. 23, 1933, No. 23483. Convention date, Aug. 24, 1932. Drawings to Specification. [Class 96] A printing paper composed of three layers or plies is characterized by the feature that the middle layer of paper is so sized that it is impervious to printing inks or colours. The combined web may be formed in a paper making machine or the separate layers may be joined together by pasting &c. The two outer layers are of good printing quality paper preferably containing kaolin, baryta, &c., as is usual. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprised a two-ply paper, one ply being absorbent to printing or writing ink &c., and the other repellant thereto. Alternatively, the middle layer of a three-ply paper contained cork powder &c., in glue, gelatine &c., the outer layers taking the printing ink &c. A further modification comprised a five-ply paper; a middle layer covered on each side by glue and cork dust, and then again by two outer layers of paper which received the printing ink &c. The repellant layer also consisted of parchment, "Cellophane", (Registered Trade Mark), or pulp sized with resin, latex, paraffin wax, &c. The composite papers were stated to be usable also for bank notes, cheques &c. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
