[Classes 18 and 94 (i)] A match packet, suitable for insertion in a cigarette and like carton, is made from a sheet of cardboard &c., doubled over to form a flat back section A, Fig. 1, a front section B covering half or substantially half of the section A, and a flap C foldably attached to the upper edge b of the section B and provided with a striking surface d on its inner surface ; matches E are disposed in the pocket a formed between the sections A, B, with their heads upwards and protruding above the edge b, and the flap C is of such a length that it completely covers the matches when it is folded over them, and provides an outer plain portion d<1> which can be pressed against the section B to hold it firmly and fully exposed when the flap is opened to expose the matches. The matches may be loosely inserted in the pocket a or between the corrugations of a strip in the pocket or a strip of connected matches may be secured to either of the sections A, B or to and between both sections ; a series of packets may be formed from a blank having lines of perforations defining individual packets. The packet may be loosely inserted in the drawer of a carton so that, when the carton is partly opened, the flap C can be folded over the front of the carton and held there while a match is removed and the packet may be made so that at can be detachably interlocked with the covering flap of the drawer of the carton; or the packet may have extensions or lugs on the section A which fit over or within the drawer of the carton so that the packet straddles the drawer and slides therewith when the carton is opened. As shown in Fig. 6, the packet has extensions C<1>, C<2> adapted to fold over the end and part of the back of the drawer of a carton and the extension C<1> may have a striking surface d<2> on the outside. The flap C may have an extension which is folded over the section A and tucked into a slit therein or the top of the flap may be otherwise temporarily fastened to the section A.
