424,557. Lifting-dogs. NATIONAL SUPPLY CORPORATION, 120, Broadway, New York, U.S.A., and OIL WELL ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., Cheadle Heath, Stockport. Sept. 27, 1933, No. 31153/34. Convention date, March 8. Divided out of 426,206. [Class 78 (iv)] [See also Group XXI] In a tubing elevator for use in well-drilling &c. operations and including a body and gate enclosing yieldably-supported slips for gripping the pipe &c., the slips 4, which may be stepped to fit the stepped tapered bore of the elevator, have recesses 11 receiving plungers 12 pressed by springs &c. 14 and provided with serrated faces engaging the drill &c. pipe 13 so that the slips are set into gripping position as the pipe is lowered. Pins 15 engage grooves in the plungers 12 to limit movement of the latter. To prevent rotation of the pipe, one of the plungers 12 may have vertical serrations, or the serrations or some of the plungers may be inclined in opposite directions. The slips are connected to pins 6 movable in bores 7 in the elevator and pressed upwardly by springs 8. Adjacent slips are interlocked by lugs 16 entering complementary recesses to ensure simultaneous movement. Specification 426,206 is referred to.
