Dec. 11, 1933, No. 34759. [Class 64 (i)] [See also Group XXXI] A device for supplying warm or cold air to a motor vehicle comprises a heating chamber 1 surrounding the exhaust pipe 2 and having a byepass 6. Flexible metal tubes, 12, 13, which may be lined with asbestos, are provided for inflow and outflow of air. The tube 12 carries a funnel 15 and is provided with a fixing clip 16 whereby it can be fixed to receive air from the engine fan. A rotatable damper 16 is provided on the outlet tube 13 and is located on the floor of the vehicle. Valves 7, 8, 9 are provided by which the amounts of air passing through the heater and byepass are regulated. The heater may be entirely shut off when cold air only is required. The heating chamber 1 may be covered with asbestos and a packing sleeve 5 may be provided for different sizes of exhaust pipes. The tubes 12, 13 may be detached and connected together, in which case the heater may omit the byepass and control dampers. The device is applicable for heating a side-car and for supplying warm air through the handlebars of a motor cycle.
