Abstract
424,356. Mining-machines. HOY, A. Y., Bush House, Aldwych, London. Oct. 19, 1933, No. 29010. [Class 68(i)] A jib for a mining-machine comprises top and bottom plate-like parts, which parts or members secured thereto form the sides of the chain channel, chain guiding or supporting means forming the base of the chain channel, and means for adjustably spacing the plates. In Figs. 1 and 2, plates 1, 2 are riveted to side bars 3 and to a curved end bar 4 which is also riveted to the side bars 3. Spacing members, such as washers 8, shims, or transverse bars 9, are provided between the plates 1, 2 and the bars 3, 4 to give the desired width of chain channel. Wearing strips 11 are riveted to the inner edges of the plates and are spaced further from the bar 4 than from the bars 3 to allow bending of the cutter chain. A jib adjusting nut 13 is riveted between the plates 1, 2 with interposed plates &c. 15, and may have a grease cover 16 welded thereto. In a modification, Fig. 4, the bar 4 is replaced by an idler wheel or sprocket 17, the top plate 1 comprising a removable outer end 18 held to the bottom plate by screws 20, spacing strips 22, washers &c. being provided. The wheel 17 rotates on a bronze &c. bushing 28 held by eccentric screws 30, the wheel being recessed on each side to receive plates 29 and ridges 32 thereon. A central oil &c. reservoir 33 is provided in the bushing. The inner faces of the plates 1, 2 may be provided with depressed seats to receive the bars 3, 4.
