Convention date, Feb. 1, 1933. [Class 103 (iii)] [See also Group XXXI] In an auxiliary propelling device employed for shunting railway wagons or other vehicles with spring-suspended bodies and in which the necessary grip of the driving wheels of the device upon the rail or other running surface is obtained partially from the weight of the wagon &c. itself, the frame 2 of the device directly supports the engine 6 and is in the form of a lever pivoted directly on the axle 3 of the wheel 4, and is provided with upwardly extending members directly engaging the frame or body 10 of the wagon or a part integral therewith at a point 2<a> lying outside the vertical plane passing through the axle 3. In the construction shown the device 2 is adapted to push the wagon and the point 2<a> lies on the opposite side of the axle 3 to the handles 2<b> ; in a modification a tractor is described, in which case the point 2<a> lies on the same side of the axle 3 as the handles 2b. In both arrangements the engine drives the wheel 4 through chain gear 7, 8, 9 in such a direction that the reaction due to the engine torque furnishes additional grip for the wheel 4 upon the running surface.
