Abstract

Candles are made from paraffin scale to which has been added fatty acids obtained by splitting hydrogenated natural oils having originally a high content of linolic, oleic, or like unsaturated bodies. For example, cottonseed oil is hydrogenated until the iodine No. is 5 or less, and split by the Twitchell or Petroff process; the fatty acid is separated and distilled, and 5--50 lb. added to 95--50 lb. of scale.
