Abstract

423,408. Sewing - machines. FAIRWEATHER, W. C., 65, Chancery Lane, London.-(Singer Manufacturing Co.; Elizabeth, New Jersey, U.S.A.) May 14, 1934, No. 14454. [Class 112] A pull-off for a pyramid-purl lock-stitch buttonhole-sewing machine comprises a blade 136 which engages the bobbin thread between the thread-plate 53 and exerts a gradual wedging action. The pull-off is loosely mounted on the hook-shaft 83 and is oscillated by a crank 139 so that its speed is less than that of the hook and it is retarded towards the end of its stroke. While the bobbin thread is being pulled, the hook is rotating idly. The blade edge 138 prevents bowing of the needle thread on the side remote from the hook 85. During the barring operations, additional thread is pulled-off by an auxiliary pull-off 143 which is brought to its operative position shown in full lines, by a linkage connected to the mechanism controlling the amplitude of needle vibrations.
