Abstract

423,378. Electromagnetic switches. HASLEV, A. M., 9, Frederiksplads, Randers, Denmark. Sept. 27, 1933, No. 26580. [Class 38 (v)] The soft iron bar armature 7 of an electromagnetic relay engages a contact 9 in a controlled circuit on attraction by an electromagnet 1 external to the evacuated casing 3. A projection 8 formed on the armature 7 is arranged to be immersed in mercury 5 connected in the controlled circuit and contained in a reservoir 4 formed in the container by which a permanent connection between the mercury and the armature is maintained during any operation of the latter. The poles of the electromagnet may be recessed into the upper side of the container but in a modification in which they are not so recessed the container may be turned over so that the body of mercury moves into an opposite recess, into which is arranged to project an additional projection formed on the other side of the armature. Various arrangements of fixed contacts above and below and at one or both ends of the armature may, alternatively, be made.
