Abstract
Artificial silk threads, fibres, filaments, and the like are passed, between the spinneret and the godet, over a guide system comprising two or more thin tantalum wire guides. In an example, an artificial thread emerging from the spinneret in a horizontal direction is passed over a tantalum wire guide at an angle of 150 DEG and then under a similar guide at an angle of 60 DEG and so to the godet. The arrangement leads to the production of threads of high dry and wet tenacity. It is of particular advantage in the production of viscose artificial silk. The tantalum guides are highly acid resistant and may be made as thin as 1 millimetre in diameter.
