Abstract
423,133. Typewriters &c. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION, 270, Broadway, New York, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Hoffman, M. J.) Feb. 20, 1934, No. 6588. Convention date, Feb. 20, 1933. [Class 100 (iv)] Index type-wheel machines.-A machine for printing the same identification number on a series of tear-off coupons forming part of a ticket employed in keeping a record of workmen's wages, comprises two lines of typewheels arranged in groups, and means for simultaneously setting all the groups. For printing variable matter such as price-data, either or both of the lines of type-wheels may be associated with a stationary type-bar containing set-up types. In the machine shown in Figs. 1 and 2, two lines a, b of type-wheels are mounted on shafts 35 and are divided into eleven groups, each consisting of four type-wheels 30 .. 30<c> and 31 .. 31<c> respectively. Corresponding type-wheels 30, 31 .. 30<c>, 31<c> gear with racks 29 .. 29<c> which are connected by gear-shafts 20 .. 20<c> to indexslides 23.. 23<c> respectively. The index-slides are formed with finger-pieces 24 and are provided at the top with index-characters which are visible through a slot. When an identification number is set by the indexslides, all the groups of type-wheels receive the same setting. The ticket 45 is placed on a plate 12, and impression is effected by means of bars 42, 43 carried by a head 44 which is operated by a hand-lever 51. Machines with types separate.-Variable pricedata are printed by means of stationary typebars 36, 37 containing set-up types 40. The type-bars consist of channel-members mounted in notches 38 in cross-plates 14. The types may have notches for engaging a key 31. Sheet-guiding arrangements.-Register - pins 55, Fig. 2, for engaging holes in the ticket are carried by a frame 54 which can slide laterally on the ticket-supporting plate 12, and is retained by co-operation of a spring-pin with notches in a block on the plate.
