[Class 60] [See also Group XXIV] A spindle carrying a thin abrasive wheel 2 is provided with a flange 12 against which the wheel is clamped, for example, by the flange 17 and nut 16, the flange 12 being provided with a plurality of lugs or pins 19, 19a, 19b asymmetrically arranged on it and adapted to engage in corresponding openings in the wheel so that the wheel can be secured only in one position. The necessity for re-centring the wheel on replacing it after removal and the possibility of an alteration in position of the cutting edge owing to a dished wheel being replaced in a reversed position, are therefore avoided. In the form shown the three lugs are at different radial distances from the axis of the spindle, and the angular spacings between them may be equal to one another or different. Alternatively, three lugs at the same radial distance but at unequal angular spacings from one another, or two lugs on different diametral lines and at different radial distances may be employed. In a modification, the lugs extend outwardly from the central spindle and are of different lengths, Fig. 6 showing the centre portion of the abrasive wheel having recesses 28, 29, 30, 31 extending radially from the central aperture in which the lugs engage.
