Abstract
419,700. Tools for removing wheels &c. from shafts. MARX & TRAUBE GES., 75, Gutleutstrasse, Frankfort-on-Main, Germany. Feb. 10, 1934, Nos. 4444 and 5284. Convention dates, Feb. 10, 1933 and Sept. 2, 1933. [Class 61 (iii).] An hydraulic device for removing motor car wheels, levers &c. from their supports comprises a screw operated piston 5 displaceable along a tubular extension 3 of a two part casing 1, 2 to force down a larger piston 15 on a presser rod 14 disposed in a second extension 11 of the casing, the extension being of smaller diameter than the casing, of greater length than the stroke of the larger piston 15, and being externally threaded to screw into a shorter threaded portion 12 of a bell shaped member 13 adapted to be connected to the wheel hub &c. 24. In operation, the piston 5 is retracted to its uppermost limit, the device secured to the wheel hub 24 by means of a split screwed ring 19 threaded into the member 13, and the casing is screwed down until a ram 18 on the piston rod 14 is stopped by the wheel spindle 23. Movement of the piston 5 then draws the hub 24 off the spindle 23. The bell shaped member 13 may be replaced by a hollow member adapted to engage below the head of a lever or by a member 29, Fig. 4, having an annular recess 30 in which engage the hooked ends of arms 31 pivoted at their other ends about pins 34 in U-shaped members 33 provided with apertures 35 for the reception of the securing bolts 36 of a motor car wheel, nuts 37 securing the members 33 to the bolts 36.
