Abstract
419,471. Catapults for parachutes. HUTTON, J., 32, Hastilar Close, and MOTTERSHAW, J. W., 60, Burcot Road, both in Sheffield. July 27, 1933, No. 21102. [Class 132 (iii).] A toy comprises a catapult projecting a parachute. In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the catapult is formed of bent steel or other metal wire A formed with two or more equally spaced eyes or notches A<1> connected by elastic cords C to pocket D receiving the parachute E connected by preferably elastic cords F to wooden cylinder G and having an elastic tail piece E<1> stitched thereto. A wooden handle B is provided driven on or over the twisted ends of the wires A. The pocket D may be of fabric, leather or ahuninium and may have a tassel D <1> and a rigid wire rim D<2>. The elastic cords C may be continuous bands looped through eyes A<1> and through holes in the pocket D or the cords may be stitched or tied thereto. The parachute E is of silk or cotton and has a circular or polygonal periphery, and the cords F are sewn to the parachute E with the other ends thereof nailed to the cylinder G. The member G may be a wooden ball, doll, animal or lettered or figured label. In use the cords F are tensioned and with the parachute E are wrapped round the member G, the parachute thus self-opening on discharge. In a modification the parachute is small and rigid.
