Abstract

419,229. Filters. BENNET, R., Mere Heath House, Davenham, near Northwich, and STEVENSON, T., Chester Road, Winsford, both in Cheshire. July 5, 1933, No. 19030. [Class 46.] A number of filter drums 1 connected to vacuum are detachably mounted in a rotatable framework, so that they are successively submerged in liquid in a container 6, and means are provided to rotate the drums about their axes during part at least of their travel. Each drum, which may be of wire gauze, is supported at one end by a spindle 7 in a wheel 2 by which the structure is rotated and at the other by a hollow connection 8 forming part of a header 3, which is connected to a valve ring by hollow spokes 4. As the structure rotates pinions 11 on the spindles 7 come successively into engagement with a rack 12 and a scraper 5 associated with each drum removes the solid matter therefrom so that it is discharged down a delivery plate 13. Bars 19 suspended by arms 18 may be provided to agitate the material in the container 6. Arrangements are made to break the vacuum in each drum while it is being scraped. The pinions 11 may be replaced by rubber rings and the rack by a friction-grip track, and the scrapers may rotate instead of the drums. When a drum is removed the corresponding connection 8 is closed by bolting a plate thereon. An alternative form of drum comprises a metal tube blanked at the ends and having an outer covering of filter cloth stretched on corrugated gauze to provide a small evacuating space. Means may be provided for spraying liquid on the drums. The rack 12 may be extended so that the drums are rotated while immersed in the liquid to be filtered.
